Helsinki, 23 January 2008
To: IOF Full Member Federations
SUBJECT: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR ELECTION TO THE IOF COUNCIL
FOR THE BIENNIAL PERIOD 2008-2010
Dear orienteering friends
You will recall that I wrote to you on 26 November, 2007 regarding the procedure for IOF
Council nominations in 2008, as agreed at the 2007 Presidents' Conference in Kiev, Ukraine.
The procedure was outlined in an attachment to that letter.
The Secretariat now calls for nominations for election to the IOF Council for the biennial period 2008-2010.
The IOF Statutes valid from 3 August 2006 read:
"8.10 Elections
8.10.1 The Ordinary General Assembly shall elect the IOF Council for a two year term, until the
end of the following Ordinary General Assembly. The Council shall consist of
1. A President
2. Three Vice Presidents
3. Seven other members
The President and Vice Presidents are also the President and Vice Presidents of the IOF.
At least two of the persons elected to Council shall (nominations permitting) be from outside Europe.
The elected Council shall include at least two persons of each gender, nominations permitting."
According to the procedure for 2008, nominations for the Council are to be received, in writing, by the IOF Secretariat not later than four months before the General Assembly - that is by 18 March 2008.
Should the Statutory requirements (as in 8.10.1 above) not be met, the Secretariat shall call for supplementary nominations.
Only full members may nominate candidates. A member may propose candidates only from its
own country.
I can now also advise that all federations represented on the present Council have announced by letter whether or not they intend to seek the re-election of the respective current Council member.
The following federations have confirmed their intention to nominate:
Sweden: Ake Jacobson
Australia: Hugh Cameron
Switzerland: Marcel Schiess
Estonia: Leho Haldna
Great Britain: Brian Porteous
Hungary: Laszlo Zentai
Member federations may wish to refer to two previously circulated documents when considering
a nomination for Council - "Role of Council" and "Profile for Council members, competencies
and attributes".
On behalf of the IOF Council
Best wishes
Barbro Rönnberg
Secretary General
